The past couple of weeks we have been shooting portraits. I learned the constant light worked best indoors because when I used the flash it turned out blury and had little bubble type things on the pictures. I really enjoyed shooting the portraits it's difficult especially when you shoot film. Shooting film will always be harder because you can never see your results until your done and you develop them to where when you shoot digital you can see your results right away. Another thing I learned was that your shutter speed as a big effect on if your picture turns out right or turns out blurry. Well that's it until next time
Shooting film is all about setting the aperture to the right settings. You can't just randomly go around and shoot film like you can digital. In order to get some high quality film pictures you have to use your light meter on your cell phone. Then you change the aperture on you camera, make sure your camera is zoomed where you want it to be and take the final picture. Shooting film is all about taking your time you cant rush or it won't turn out right.
Getting your film on the reel can be difficult at times. Your in an all black room trying to put your negatives on a plastic reel. You can't turn the lights on or you'll expose your film and it will turn out all black. In order to get your film to go into the reel you have to find where it enters and slowly twist it back and fourth so it rolls all the way on. Once you get the film on the reel you then have to put the reel in the tank and put the lid all the way on and make sure the top is really all the way on. Then you can turn on the light. and walk out the dark room.
It's easier to walk down a path with someone that will push you to your potential then it is to walk a path with someone that's going to change paths in the middle. I came up with this quote by looking at my pictures from this week. Not every creek leads to the same place some take you to lakes and some split ways and go down different paths. I chose this to write about because it can relate to photography. I chose to go more down the shooting film pictures for school but I shoot digital outside of school. Shooting film is all about patience you can't just snap picture just to snap because for one you don't get to see them as you shoot you have to get them developed first and second off because your pictures won't turn out right.
A creek could be seen as a symbol to explain life all depends on how you look at it. Just take a minute to read this and see if you can see it from my point of view. Suppose you get in a shallow part of the creek and have some fun or even just to get your feet a litter wet that could symbolize a less stressful piece of life. As you move forward in the the water it will get deeper in some points which could be used to symbolize the more stressful pieces of life. The height of water changes in a creek it can go from shallow to deep and deep back to shallow. When your younger life is always shallow you laugh alot and just have fun but as you grow older and get see all the different paths you can go life gets deeper. It's harder to make decisions seeing all the different things to do not everything is easy and not everyone follows the same path.
For this weeks shoot I went to a creek and took some pictures of the top of the trees and the sky. I liked the way it turnt out because the trees are the darkest part and all trees are different shapes and sizes. It kinda makes a little pattern in the sky since its the brightest part of the picture. I also like the way my moms Hasta flower turned out from where it's many different colors it has many different tones in it. The different colors is what makes the pictures more interesting.
Out of all the things you can take pictures of nature seems to catch my eyes the most. Don't take that the wrong way I enjoy shooting pictures of different things to but when I shoot film nature seems to end up the best. Yea I enjoy doing portraits or just random pictures to but I seem to be best at my nature shots. Although shooting film has never really been my best thing (which is why Im taking this class to get better at it) I feel like I've progressed alot considering last year my pictures always ended blurry or just not that good.
All though I don't really like shooting film as much as I do digital I'm started to like it more and more the better I get the easier it becomes. It starts to come all together and oh did I mention we get to shoot color film this year? That's a big change from being used to only being allowed to shoot black and white. If your like me and you don't really like shooting film it will get better if you just pay attention it all gets easier. Well that's about all I can say for now see you again next time.
